This year’s event will again include an additional final nine holes to be played in a modified, alternate shot format sure to ratchet up the pressure to unprecedented levels. The final gut-check nine holes will be played in a Pinehurst format wherein each player hits a tee ball and the team alternates shots through the hole. This brutal finishing test exposes any weakness in a team and leaves two men standing while the rest succumb to the unrelenting meat grinder that is the final nine on Sunday.

Please call Todd Halterman (231-638-2352) or Mark Reyers (616-633-7845) at your earliest convenience to reserve your slot in the most prestigious event in amateur golf – The 2010 Mashie-Niblick Classic.

Drive there, cough up $55, sack up, time your sway, fight the choke reflex, can the putts and you may possibly earn the opportunity to take home the coveted Mashie Cup and have your name forever enshrined in the Hall of Champions.

Bring lots of cash, as the accounting for this monster undertaking is more complicated than counting the gate at The Concert for Bangladesh. There will, as always, be a scrupulously managed set of pools for the betting men among us – but those will cost you some additional scratch as well.

Format: 2-man teams, 27-holes – 9 best ball/9 scramble/9 alternate shot

Dinner: PGA Buffet with 2 Meats (I’ve already selected Grilled Salmon with Dill Sauce as one – give me your vote for the other meat between BBQ Chicken, Steak with Mushroom Sauce or Sliced Roast Beef in Mushroom Sauce). Other items are Parsley Roasted Redskin Potatoes, Maple Glazed Baby Carrots, Fruit Salad, Cheddar Macaroni Salad, Tossed Salad, Rolls w/ Butter & Lemonade or Iced Tea.

Cost: $55 per player (a huge bargain if you add in the booze, cigars, and event holes with prizes)

We need a firm headcount for the course and the dinner banquet, and it’s essential that we have that count 2 weeks prior to the event, so please register ASAP..

Play hard.
